Schoolwide Enrichment Model (SEM)

At P53K, we have implemented a Schoolwide Enrichment Model based on the work ok Renzulli and Reis. (SEM, Renzulli, 1977; Renzulli & Reis, 1985, 1997, 2014) SEM at P53K is implemented as an enrichment program for all students through Enrichment Clusters. Enrichment Clusters are designated time blocks, set aside weekly, for students to explore areas of interest. Enrichment Clusters are characterized by evidence of these five components; advanced content, authentic methods, product/service, student driven and authentic audience.

Students at P53K attend an Open House where they are able to choose from a variety of Enrichment Clusters being facilitated by the staff. The students rate the clusters and are then grouped based on their choices. Enrichments Cluster facilitators work to provide authentic experiences and teach advanced content in the area of interest chosen by the students. All work done in an enrichment cluster is guided toward developing a product or service that solves a real world problem and engages an authentic audience.
