Teacher -6:1:1

Hello! I have been with P53K since 2007. I graduated Centenary College with a degree in Psychology and a Master’s in Students with Disabilities from Pace University. I love helping students think outside the box and use a great deal of project-based learning to help motivate students to be as independent as possible. When not in school, I can be found reading books and comics, telling bad jokes, riding my bicycle, and enjoying my time with my wife and two daughters.

Teacher 12:1:4

I have been with P53K since 2016. I have taught in an 8:1+1 setting, Music for all settings, and currently teach a wonderful 12:1+4 class. I received my bachelors from SUNY Empire state in Labor Studies, my 1st Masters in Organizational Leadership from Baker University, my 2nd Masters in Special Education through CUNY Hunter and New York City Teaching Fellows, and I am currently working on my 3rd Masters in Educational Leadership. Prior to all of this I completed a 4-year apprenticeship through the NYC District Council of Carpenters and worked commercial construction for 5 years in Brooklyn Local 926. I also worked as a Corrections Officer in a Juvenile Facility where we implemented PBIS as a form of outreach and support for at risk youth. I have the best job in the world because I get to support my students to climb mountains each day and provide opportunities for them to become more in touch with who they are and all they can accomplish. On my time I enjoy carpentry/building projects, playing music (singing, guitar, piano, saxophone), playing board/card games, and going camping (even in the winter!).

Rebecca Rembert

Art Teacher

My name is Rebecca Rembert, and I am the art teacher at P53K@MS88. I am a graduate of Pratt Institute with a BFA/MS majoring in Illustration and Art History. I am a multi-faceted artist, equally comfortable with a pencil, paintbrush, or sculpture. I live life as a teacher, painter, illustrator, set designer, and mural painter. I designed the sets and worked with a crew to paint the various P53K theatre productions. I have been working for the NYCDOE for nearly twenty years, teaching art to middle school students both in general and special needs educational settings. As a teacher, I believe in the importance of art theory and the power of art making. Encouraging my students to create works as they discover their own artistic voices is my primary goal. Art, in all beautiful and complex forms, is the soul of culture and the cornerstone of the human experience. Central to my teaching is the concept of educator as lead learner and chief collaborator. As an educator, my passion for the arts informs my teaching and my understanding of what it takes to be an artist. I believe that anyone can make something amazing. I have come to learn that through the arts, especially the performing arts, we learn about the human condition in conjunction with others causing us to live more enriched, social, and equitable lives.
